Viacom got a lot of negative publicity by asking YouTube to remove 100.000 clips from their site. As a result many non-infringing videos have been removed by mistake the EFF claimed.
Now Viacom is sueing YouTube for more then $1bn for copyright violation. At this date it is still technically impossible to immediately screen the massive uploads on copyright infractions.
The only way to prevent copyrighted material to be shown, is to close the site.
So nobody wins and the freedom of speech of the YouTube community is threatened.
Maybe Viacom should start looking at other opportunities to generate more revenue. Why don’t they team up with a player like Starbucks, who just launched its own record label Hear Music. Together with the label, Starbucks launched a radio station as well.
